Tell us why you feel your guardians wouldn't approve

Is it difficult to make a case for an event that’s just for fun or to a place known for alcohol?

Does it matter whether it’s a mixed demographic or say, mostly women at that place?

Are there any areas in your city or any particular streets that you’d rather avoid?

Does being out after sunset or post a curfew make the plan unfavourable?

Does the need to travel by cab or public transport add to the hassle around planning?

Have you ever avoided going out thinking your parents wouldn’t approve?

Unsure about what happens at the event/place

Unsure what kind of crowd turns up

Does it matter who else would turn up at that event or place? What about a mixed demographic vs a women-only event?

Can’t be out at that time of the day

Are there any areas or streets that you’d rather avoid? Would you rather not go to the outskirts for instance?

Not comfortable/familiar with the area

Does being out after sunset make the plan unfavourable? Or is there a curfew that you’d rather abide by?

Uncertain about the commute

Is travel by cab more difficult to pitch or travelling by public transport?

Frequently Asked Questions

How will this help me convince my guardian?

You’ll be offered a list of preferences to select and prioritise from. You can select preferences based on what makes outings more favourable for your guardians, and we’ll recommend plans accordingly. If you share the plan with your guardian, they will also be able to see all the factors that the plan addresses.

How is it different from other planning apps?

A young woman we took feedback from said, “There are a lot of apps suggesting plans but what works for a 22 yr old guy, doesn’t work for me.” Other planning apps filter plans according to events, date or budget. We understand that it takes more to make a plan happen, especially for young people.

Will I have to set preferences each time I use the app?

Well, no. You can set your preferences when you onboard and choose to save them under a unique username. The next time you log in, we’ll have your recommendations prepared until you choose to edit your preferences.

Why do you care so much about me going out?

Upbeat is designed by a team of young women who have experienced restrictions in mobility at different levels. Our struggles inspired us to design interventions that respond to restrictions. Although Upbeat comes from our interactions with young women, it remains a solution for us as well.

Can my friends and I set our preferences together?

Yes, we plan to add that and more to the next version of the app once we do justice to our primary intent of Upbeat - find plans your guardians would approve of. As human centred designers, we will iterate upon and adapt Upbeat as per the needs of our users.

Is it free to use?

Yes :)

Why Upbeat

Feedback From Others In The Waitlist

“I have a lot of trouble putting plans in front of my parents. My friend and I literally had a ppt prepared to convince our parents, Upbeat would take away all that hassle.”

“I usually avoid going to places because I don’t want any drama at home. Upbeat has so many questions that it will answer their concerns.”

“Every day I think of going out with my friends when I am free but we end up staying in the PG or just visiting each other’s room. We are going from one indoors to another indoors. Upbeat will open up other places for us.”

“I’ll get to know about events jahaan pe parents will allow, jaise all-girls night club ho gaya, even if it’s just one day of the week … A fun plan that my parents would also approve of would be the best combination.”

“…I was afraid to even talk it out to my friends. My friends would think that I am not so cool. Upbeat could give a sense of companionship, even though it’s an app, I can rely on it for good advice.”
